Sebago Lake Ranch Featured In Maine. Magazine!

IN the March 2012 edition of Maine. magazine's Food Issue, you'll find a wonderful blip about us in "Locally Sourced Meat", by Joe Ricchio on page 77.  It reads:

Rotational grazing-strategically moving livestock to fresh areas of pasture to allow heavily munched plots to regenerate-not only is good for the land but makes for much happier and more productive cows.  Feeding these animals an all-grass diets imparts an intense flavour to the beef, which is also higher in nutrients and leaner than corn fed meat.  This philosophy has put the meat from Sebago Lake Ranch in high demand, and you would do well to seek out a few steaks for yourself.  Any questions about why it tastes so good can be answered on their website by Gidget, a talking cow who claims,"There is no comparison!  Why on earth would I want to grow up on a feed lot or have my calves grow up anywhere but a sunny pasture?" Why, indeed.

October Update
Thanks everyone for an incredible season.  Demand at the Portland Market was above what I expected and a challenge with logistics.  Demand has now exceeded the supply and I may not be back for this season.  I appreciate your patience as I make adjustments to my management to meet the needs of the customers in the Greater Portland and Lakes Region area.

Summer almost gone
Now Playing: Update

It's been a long summer, hot but dry.  It makes me wish I'd have invested in irrigation like I was thinking about back in the spring.  The Portland Farmers Market has been a great experience, I have no regrets making the switch.  I apologize to my former customers in Windham, but the margin just couldn't justify my time.  I hoped to have somebody else sell my beef there, but somebody else said they were going to sell some grassfed.

Portland has been a new set of challenges, mostly keeping up with the logistics of supplying the market, unfortunately it looks like there is only a couple weeks of product left.  I appreciate all the customers who kept coming back on a weekly basis.  I am already in the planning stages for preparing for next season.

Beef Roulette Anyone??

With all the recent E-Coli outbreaks and recalls, our local paper the PORTLAND PRESS HERALD published this cartoon in the Editorial section.

Do you know where your food comes from?
